Well known in kickwa language as the Taita Imbabura. It´s located at 4.639 m.a.s.l. height, in the center of the province of Imbabura. This volcano has the same name of the Province. Along of its northern hillside, the city of Ibarra is settled.
The Imbabura volcano is a cultural reference for local communities, who consider it as a sacred mountain and there are amazing myths and legends in their honor.
This volcano is very visited for the practice of adventure sports such as hiking and trekking, and is the most recommended for acclimatization and mountain climbing practices.
