EMPANADAS DE MOROCHO

tradicional pasties of Ibarra

The elaboration of empanadas de morocho dates from the twentieth century, with more than 90 years of tradition,  maintained until nowadays for Mrs. Julia Castro heirs. Prepared with selected ingredients, choosing the morocho, which is ground to put it ferment, then the dough is rinsed and ground again to form the empanadas, which are filled with rice, peas, meat strips, onion and seasoning. They are fried in a bronze pan and served with chili.

The traditional shops to buy empanadas are located in Olmedo and García Moreno streets; or Flores and Rocafuerte streets.
